11th Cadence "Stars & Strikes" Raises $944,500; Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose, San Francisco 49ers Foundation to Benefit
SAN JOSE, Calif.—(BUSINESS WIRE)—April 19, 2004—
Cadence Design Systems, Inc. (NYSE:CDN) today announced
that $944,500 was raised at its Stars & Strikes(R) bowling fund-raiser
Saturday with The Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose and the San
Francisco 49ers Foundation earmarked as major beneficiaries.
The fund-raiser surpassed its goal of $500,000, bringing the total
amount raised since the event's inception in 1990 to more than $5.6
million. Proceeds will be used to complete the construction of an
8,600 square-foot outdoor learning laboratory at the celebrated
children's museum, and to support the community outreach efforts of
the San Francisco 49ers Foundation.
More than 200 Silicon Valley organizations supported this year's
Stars & Strikes program, which matched employees from supporting
companies with members of the San Francisco 49ers in a bowling
competition. Entirely underwritten and organized by Cadence, the event
also included a silent auction of donated items, such as autographed
sports memorabilia, vacation getaways and consumer electronics items.
"And along came not a spider, but a web -- a web of supporters
through Cadence Stars & Strikes," said Children's Discovery Museum
Executive Director Connie Martinez. "For more than a decade, Cadence
Design Systems has used its 'web of relationships' to raise money for
worthy community projects and programs. This year, the Children's
Discovery Museum is the very, very fortunate non-profit to benefit
from the Stars & Strikes fund-raiser."
"I am continually impressed that so many Silicon Valley companies
join us year after year to support Cadence's Stars & Strikes program
and its beneficiaries," said Cadence President and CEO Ray Bingham. "I
am proud that this year's event was such a success and that once again
we exceeded our fund-raising goals. The programs that the Children's
Discovery Museum of San Jose and the 49ers Foundation provide are
critical to our community and it is important that we do what we can
to support them. We are indebted to the 49ers Foundation for its
support of today's event."
"The Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose and the programming
it provides are an important part of our Bay Area community," said Tom
Bowen, executive director of the 49ers Foundation. "The San Francisco
49ers and the 49ers Foundation are proud to have partnered with
Cadence for this year's Stars & Strikes fund-raiser and to have
contributed to its success."
Stars & Strikes is one of the largest community events of its kind
in Silicon Valley. Since 1990, Cadence's partners in business have
come together as partners in the community raising more than $5.6
million, most of which has been used to fund major programs and
projects that provide significant benefits to local non-profit
organizations and charities that serve those in need.
